Dirt bike riders filmed assaulting motorist in East Auckland

Police are investigating after a motorist was reportedly assaulted, had his keys taken and was left needing medical attention during a confrontation with a group of dirt bike riders in East Auckland.

Footage shows several dirt bike riders surrounding a vehicle at a red light at the intersection of Pakuranga Road and Fortunes Road on 25 April, blocking the driver’s path before the confrontation escalated.
Police say the group allegedly intimidated the motorist, who got out of the vehicle before being assaulted. It is also believed the riders took the vehicle’s keys before leaving the area.
The driver made it to safety nearby and received medical attention. Officers say inquiries are under way, but the people involved have not yet been identified or located.
A witness said the group had been behaving dangerously in the area, including weaving through traffic, cutting motorists off and performing wheelies near pedestrians. Members of the public who saw the incident or have information have been asked to contact police, 105 or Crime Stoppers, referencing 260426/7696.
