Giuliani, who is due to turn 82 this month, became widely known as ‘America’s Mayor’ after guiding New York City through the aftermath of the 11 September attacks.
In recent years, Giuliani played a prominent role in efforts to challenge the 2020 US presidential election result. Those efforts led to a defamation judgment that required him to pay two election workers $148 million.
Giuliani was injured in a car crash in New Hampshire last year. At the time, he suffered a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple cuts and bruises, and injuries to his left arm and lower leg.
